Snow days
I hauled Tam out into the snow last weekend. There was only about an inch or so on the ground, which is just enough to play in. It was chilly, but not so cold that we couldn't enjoy the weather for a short time.
Now Tam has been staring out of our screen door for weeks. Mostly he likes to watch the cars go by on the road, or babble at people walking their dogs. He's even tried to step out into the snow when I briefly open the door to grab the mail...and he's in his stocking feet! I finally told him we would go out and he could check out the cold white frozen water stuff first-hand.
Ah...but before we could go outside, we had to get all bundled up. Oh the layering:
Diaper, onesie, baby-legs, long sleeve shirt, overalls, sweater, socks, boots, coat, hat, mittens. He just about nearly looked like the kid from "A Christmas Story." He could still move, but once fallen, he couldn't get back on his feet without help.
Once outside, he tottered around but was most interested in the shovel I was using to clear the walk. He amused himself with this for several minutes as he tried to figure out how to "use" it. He kept trying to lift the shovel up so that he could carry it, but he's just too little still and not quite strong enough. He eventually gave up and just started pulling it around the yard.
We lasted outside together for about 15minutes. Once his hands got snow on them and he got cold, the screaming began. Yep, he did NOT like cold fingers...and he wanted me to do something about it RIGHT NOW.
It took a cuddle with mom, his favorite knit blanket, and a story, before he forgot about having cold phalanges. We'll have to add this one to Tam short list of items that make him cry. (It only includes being overtired, having his diaper changed, and not being able to walk where he wants to). We'll see if his thoughts about snow changes by next year, or else we had better move to warmer climates!

Happy Valentine's Day Early
significant others guilty about not being able to purchase marked up baubles for their loved ones.
Yes, Brian and I rarely do anything extra for this day 'cause we *heart* each other all year long.
However, I always appreciate the cards and cookies sent by family anyways. My mom's on the ball and has already sent a Valentine's day card our way for Tam. He hasn't quite figured out how to open envelopes, but he totally loved the card. It's a lion with a fuzzy texture and yarn-like hair. Tam kept petting the card and rubbing it against his face. Then he proceeded to walk around the living room waving it in the air and yelling "Dah!" Currently "Dah" is the most favorite word.
100% kudos to mom for the awesome pick of a card for a 14mth old!
Once done with the card, Tam very carefully put it away in an empty bin we had in the living room. Very sweet.

The cookie cutters all really belong here in a kitchen drawer:
They have been migrating :
Perhaps it is to see new sights?

First exam of the semester
Ahhh...I'm sitting here watching my students take their first exam of the semester. 100questions = 100pts. In this class, much of the information should be review from biology class in high school (atoms, carbohydrates, proteins, and the like). Hopefully many of them took my advice and began studying well in advance. Hopefully most of them will do well.
However, I already worry for them. Three of their classmates have not shown up for the test yet...as I sit 15minutes in from the start time. Two of the three are quite bright students, but not so good at attendance. Maybe they do not remember that the class actually meets 3x a week, including Mondays? We shall see what the excuses are...any guesses?
Most likely over-slept.
As to the rest of them...I wish them all the best of luck at this test of their knowledge.
