Yardsales and sewing

Yardsales are now in full swing here, since the weather has warmed up a little.  This is awesome because I am always on the hunt for a bargain, especially with clothes for the kiddos.  The downside is that the sales around here tend to run Thursday and Friday, and Maybe Saturday.  What the Front Door?  I guess thrifty people don't work so they can go to these during the week.  Me, I had to wait until school ended before I could hit any Friday sales.

Anywho...
A few weekends ago, Brian needed some extra Saturday morning sleeping time between work shifts, so I hauled the kiddos out to look for some  sales randomly around the neighborhood.  I even had Tam in on this by watching out for signs that start with the letter "G" (for garage sale).  We eventually stopped at a church rummage sale.  This was great because it was in an open gym, with only a few people, so I could let Tam wander a little..especially to check out the toys and kiddy books.  Jude hung out in the carrier on me.

What we did we score?

Some vintage patterns and fabric...which made me just itch to give it a whirl for my niece.

Over two nights, I whipped up this little vintage tunic.  I deviated from the pattern a little by lining the entire shirt because of the light-weight fabric and I closed it with a button & loop rather than a zipper (yuck-haven't mastered them 100% yet).  

I tried it on Tam and he immediately twirled in it.  I think it is so sweet looking :-)

Anything else that was scored from the first yardsales of the season?  I good handful of 18month summer clothes for Jude which are quite needed.  A few 4T / 5T clothes for Tam (especially pants since he is at the age of ripping out the knees.
A few books for the boys to keep things interesting during story-time.  And a sleeping bag for Tam!  I couldn't believe that I scored this and won't have to buy one at the store.  Tam loves climbing in and out of it currently...as does Jude.

What about other sewing projects?
Oh...I have a list a mile long that I hope to tackle soon...Many I have the fabric, pattern, and notions; I was just waiting for the time.  This dress was the first finished since the boys' Easter outfits.  The fabric I love...blue with yellow sunflowers.  It is just such a sunny / happy little dress with a very twirlable skirt that is always loved.

First Big Wheels

Tamlin was in for a surprise this week.  Thanks to an excellent sale and some cash from his Grandpa Ralph, we were able to get Tam his first big wheel bike.  He has been working hard on trying to use pedals, so we thought this would be an awesome reward for him to use this summer.

Of course the bike required "some assembly by adult."  Okay.  This was the first of these "some assembly" toys we've had to deal with and it wasn't too bad. It didn't require any adult beverages to enhance the reading of the instructions.  (Even if the instructions forgot to include a step #4).  I quickly  whipped this together during the boys' afternoon nap.  Brian helped by informing me where the mallet was (thanks).

Jude was the first kiddo up and he fell in love with the box.

Tamlin awoke a little later and saw the empty box in the family room.  He immediately wanted to know where the tricycle was and if it was for him.  Brian told him to look in the box...
Which led to Tam being boxed up, scooped up, and brought outside for the reveal.

Tam emerged with a huge grin on his face!

"Wow"

Tamlin loved the flag.

His legs are just a spot short so we tucked a pillow behind him.  I'll whip him up a car pillow later this week.  He can just make it go under his own power.  We also tried going down the hill...Tam stopped mid-way down and decided it was too fast.  Once he stopped, he started again a bit slower.

What a great ride!
