Tam gets a haircut

As I recall, Tam came into this world with a full head of spikey dark hair. Everyone warned us that the hair would fall out eventually. It didn't. And we have tons of photos of his crazy hair sticking straight up throughout his first year of life. Tam got his first haircut at about 4 months. I've hacked at it with a pair of scissors at least twice since then with various success. Tam's hair has lighten over the past months and finally doesn't stick up as much.

Well, this weekend I mentioned to Brian that Tam's hair was looking ragged again, kinda like a mullet (yuck). Brian's reply was that we should just get one of those clippers hooked up to a vacuum like we saw in the movie Wayne's World. This would be in reference to the SuckCut: "Just a trim man; don't buzz me."..."Well, it certainly does suck!" Snicker, snicker. Sorry, a bit of a nod to a great movie that I think everyone should watch at least 12 times. Somehow, with Tam's love-hate relationship with the vacuum, I thought this would be a bad idea.

Instead, I went out and bought a cheap pair of electric hair clippers and was determined to have at Tam's melon hair. I strapped him in the high chair, turned on Sponge Bob Squarepants, and gave him a bunch of cheerios as a bribe. Buzz, buzz, buzz...and no blood. I don't think I did too badly. Brian even said I did a good job, but I'm not allowed to have at him yet.

After looking at the hair trim and its slight unevenness, I was reminded of a fellow blogger's recollections of her first hair cutting experience. She noted that not only will a bad hair cut eventually grow out, but that someone who still poops in his pants isn't going to notice (or care) if his hair isn't fabulous all the time!

Laugh until you pee...

Clean jokes from the baby board I puruse...

1) A man and his wife were driving down the road and not talkign to eachother much at all as they had just had a fight. They drive past a farm and out in the pen are a bunch of pigs. The husband, being snarky, gestures out the window and he says "Those some of your family members?". The wife doesn't skip a beat and syas "Yup, In-Laws"

2) Husband: How about a little sex tonight?

Wife: NO, I have a headache.

Husband: Final answer?

Wife: Yes, final answer

Husband: I'd like to phone a friend.

3) A young brunette goes into the doctor's office and says that her body hurts wherever she touches it."Impossible," says the doctor. "Show me."She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony. She pushes her knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams and so it goes on. The doctor says, "You're not really a brunette are you? She says "No, I'm really a blonde".

"I thought so," he says."Your finger is broken."

4) Bush's position on Roe vs Wade: Eh, he didn't care how ppl got out of New Orleans.

We conquered the world...or at least Grand Rapids

Tam and I did our running around today. I was armed with a fistful of coupons and Tam's hands clutched a truck, and later the receipts. Brian and I are trying to finish a headboard for our bed. He's built the wood frame and today, I went out and grabbed batting to use with the fabric. Hopefully it will be completed soon and we'll post some pics (for gloating).

I even made it up to a local baby boutique that sells cloth diapers and second-hand clothes. I love that I can see, feel, and molest the diapers before I decide which brand to try. Maybe some day the big chain stores will catch on that some people want to be more green and start stocking cloth diapers. Sigh, some day. Anyways, we needed some new covers 'cause Tam's outgrown a few of ours. Oh, there are some really cute diapers! A small part of me just melts and goes awwww. Then, the larger part of me realizes that this is a part of his wardrobe that only Brian and I see and holds the poop! It does not need to be cute. Yet, I still bought the blue and green covers and none of the pink ones. Pink and poop just doesn't go together.

My last stop was at good ol' McDonald's. Not so much for food because we are all trying to eat healthier, but Tam needed a clean diaper and milk. I thought Mickey D's is family friendly so we shouldn't have any problem meeting these goals. I walk into the women's restroom (which was very clean) and noticed...no changing table. None, zip, nada. I walked back out and looked for a "family" restroom. Nope, zip, nada. Finally, I thought well, maybe this McD's is progressive, and I actually peaked in the men's restroom. Nope, zip, nada on the changing stations. Sheesh. Being a person that isn't phased in the least, Tam gets changed on vanity next to the sink. He totally loved it because he could just reach the faucet to turn it on and off and had a blast making faces in the mirror. After this, I go up to buy the milk and some fries and put in the inquiry as to why the great American iconic family restaurant has no freakin' changing table. The answer I got is that no one has installed them. Sheesh.

I don't know what the moral of this post is. . . maybe I should learn my lesson and avoid all fast food. Or I need to learn how to change kiddo quickly in the trunk of the car. Oh, I can't wait for potty training :-)

Yeah Friday!

One week of school done for the semester...and only 15 more to go until summer break. My fridays are light in the classroom, which leaves me time to try to get things done for the next week. I really am trying uber-hard to keep my school stuff at the school and have home time for the family. I'm hanging in there to date, but I didn't have anything to grade yet this week.

The night-life in our house has slowed down. Kiddo is really good currently at going to bed by 7pm. However, he has figured out how to press his musical toys to make the sounds. Some nights he's laying in his crib pressing his glow worm toy repeatedly for a good 30minutes. This also means that Brian and I get some together time basking in the glow of electronics while snuggling under blankets. Last night I was trying to conquer the video game Lego Indiana Jones. The other night, we finally got to watch the latest Star Trek Movie and found it really awesome. I was quite impressed with the various nodes to the tv series and the other movies. In fact, I think I liked the movie much better than Avatar! Now, don't get me wrong; I liked Avatar, but I thought the plot was REALLY predictable.

Anyways, things are going well at the conclusion of this second week of February.
