Science & Pratchett

While looking for Christmas ideas still, I stumbled on this kick-butt site for science t-shirts. For those of you out there that are Hindu or have read much Terry Pratchett you'll totally appreciate this idea of the earth. I myself think that the notion of the world crawling through space on the back of elephants that stand on top of a huge turtle really really cool. I bet the waterfalls along the edges (rimfalls) are a pretty nifty sight to see too. Sigh. Then again, seeing our own Earth from space would be really really cool as well. :-)

Yep, too much time on my hands at 6am when Tam decides to wake up and I'm still too sleepy to be terribly productive. But, I'll definitely take 6am over him waking up at 5am any day. The 5am calls seem to be becoming less...but that could just be my sleep deprived imagination. How did two late night birds like Brian and me produce this early worm of a kid ?
So, this is the explanation for some of the random sites I've been posting and will post...chalk it up to the 6am brain. Oh, and did you know they still air crappy old tv shows at this early hour? I find myself strangely intrigued in "Married with Children" of late, but that could be explained by my being mesmerized by the wicked awesome 80s hair and outfits that the characters display.

I'll keep you posted if Tam suddenly decides that 7AM is a better wake up time. (Here's to hoping!)

Am I this crafty for Christmas?

I love this idea as a Christmas gift! I'll keep an eye out at yard sales for old sets 'cause I don't think Brian and I could part with either of ours :-)

Tam's New Trick

Our son has become a drool monkey :-)  We are just tickled that he now mastered the raspberry! Too cute and little slobbery, but we still love him tons. 

Too Much Information if you have a Y chromosome

Okay...the title warns you!  One of the latest topics on a board for "crunchy" moms is how to replace our disposal items with re-usable items.  For example, using cloth bags at the grocery store instead of plastic bags.  We've got the bags, even a couple of Steelers bags for Brian, but our problem is remembering to bring them into the store.  Using the cloth diapers are along this vein as well.  Then, I heard about the DivaCup.  And I totally realized, yep, I'm taking a man-made, bleached product and shoving it inside my body on a monthly basis.  Then, throwing them away.  Granted, I haven't had to buy a tampon since...hmmm...2000?  I got an "extra" gross of 'em from the stock room at Yellowstone while working there and I've been working through the box.  So the money isn't an issue, but I do like the idea of using something that is re-usable.  As one of the other posters mentioned, we already deal with way more grosser bodily functions with cleaning up after our little ones.  I am thoroughly intrigued by this gadget and may try to scope it out at a nearby store.  However, I'll have to ask the ObGyn prior to purchase, 'cause I'm leaning toward an IUD as a baby-prevention device and I may not have need of any devices in the end.   

Don't worry, we aren't totally crunchy yet.  I still use store bought soap, shampoo, and disposable wipes for baby butt clean up :-)

Trying my hand at a yard sale

It's finally nice outside and so the garage sale signs have started to appear around town.  'Tis the season for bargains :-)  Due to budget constraints I totally limit myself to about $10-15 a weekend, one region of the city, and ONLY stuff for Tam.  This way I'm way less likely to come home with some hideous object (art piece) that I got for a steal and Brian just wants to throw back away.  Last weekend was mostly a bust on the little boy clothes but I did get an older exersaucer for $8.  I had Tam "try it out" at the sale and he was all happy squeals.  It is easier to drag around the house from upstairs to downstairs.  It is also working out really well to drag outside to the yard to keep Tam occupied and safe while we are doing garden work.  It was definitely worth it.  

On the flip side, I have decided to try my luck at hosting a yard sale at the end of the month.  Now that we finally have a yard, we can give this a go.  

Mostly, I had Brian trim down the book / CD / video collections to something more manageable.  In the end, I think Brian could only let about 6 books go of his. However, good thing I wasn't quite as clingy with my reads.  We also have quite a few videos that we had bought but turn out not to be our favs.  Then, there is some of the baby clothes.  These are the outfits that I didn't like for some reason, such as yellow in color (Tam looks sickly), buttons in the back (what a pain!), or only snaps at the crotch (ditto on the pain with dressing).

Once the decision was made, I spread the word.  I think the sister and mom have some things to bring in and sell.  And, I have a co-worker that thinks she has some stuff as well.  Hope it goes well and hope we turn a buck or two.

Tam's Mother's Day Gift

Happy Mother's Day :-)  It's pretty odd to hit this holiday from the flipside.  Both Tam and Brian gave me cards for this special day.  But Tam held out to show me his new happy mom day trick until after Brian left for work this morning.  Check him out below!
