#1 : What we didn't know before baby

I've decided to keep a running log of all the new things we are learning about being parents of this wee little bundle of squirminess.  This way, we can look back on the list and laugh and laugh!  And here I thought I already knew everything in the world!

Our first tidbit has to be learning how NOISY babies sleep at times!  Our Tam is a grunter . . . like a little pig or a gassy old man.  Grunt, grunt, snort, snort, grunt, fart... sheesh.   I didn't think breastmilk would give a baby so much gas for burps and farts.  He might have reached the end of sleeping in the pack-n-play in our room because of all the noise he makes between 2 and 4am.  He eats around 10ish, wakes & eats around 2ish, grunts for couple of hours, wakes and eats around 4-5ish and may be done with the night.  My mom-sense hears all the noise and can't sleep.  So into to the crib in the nursery might be his fate.  

Then at other times, he sleeps like a quiet sake of potatoes. 

Caroling at Meijer Gardens

Oh Christmas is almost here and I am by far not ready for the holiday!  We at least have the tree up and Brian put up the village so the house is festive.  And we have a good 4-6 inches of snow on the ground so we may just get that White Christmas here.  Brian has been in the holiday spirit by singing with the local Dicken's Caroling group.  This is a small group that sings as a quartet at local events (for money).  Most of their songs are from the Victorian era...but there are some more current favorites in there as well such as Rudolf :-)

On Tuesday, Tam and I bundled up and went to Meijer Gardens to hear Brian singing.  At this time of year, the gardens have around 50 Christmas trees decorated for the season.  Each tree represents a different culture's Christmas traditions.  Some of them are pretty unique...I really liked walking through the tropical room and seeing the banana tree trimmed in colored lights.  Tam stayed awake for part of the evening then conked out. It was a great evening...if it the place was pretty packed with people with the same idea. Photos of our night out are linked on the right.

Oh...and the latest news is that Tam just discovered his hands :-)  I don't think he has figured out that they are his appendages, but he has been able to stuff them in his mouth.  Too cute.

Scott & Jennifer's Baby Boy

We just heard the news of another pair of friends having their baby.  Scott Krankowski (friend from college) and his wife Jennifer just had their first baby. . . a boy name Aaron Matthew (not sure of spelling).  He joined this world on this past Monday and beat Tamlin for weight.  The little tyke weighed in at 9lbs 8oz!  Congratulations to our friends and we wish them the best of luck on this fun new adventure!

First Bath and First Formal Photos

As an update...We haven't figured out the bedtime routine 100% quite yet.   It was a rough night last night with Tam not going to sleep until 1am (though we were trying since 10!)  He seemed to think that these hours were fun with mom and dad time.  Perhaps tonight will go a little easier. He is at least sleeping peacefully for now at 8 o'clock at night.

The past two days have been eventful for the wee one.  

We got the okay from the doctor to give him full baths now instead of just the sponge bath type.  Then today, we went to Sears for formal pictures for the relatives for the holidays.

Bath time wasn't nearly as bad as we had heard it could be with little babies.  He didn't fuss or scream at all until we took him OUT of the warm water to dress him.  He had his "thinking" face on for most of the experience.  And, of course, he let loose a fountain stream in the middle of the experience (got Brian while he was snapping a photo!)  Such a good little guy.

We also headed to Sears about 11 today for photos.  I deliberately chose a weekday with the hope that it wouldn't be busy just in case we took a while.  It was quite a deliberation as to what cute outfit to put him in and what we would wear.  We finally decided on an earthy theme of browns and greens...very "us".  The photographer at the studio was great and VERY patient.  She said that she has done many babies :-)  Tam, being the contrary being, decided to scream his little head 

off for the first 30 minutes.  It took a diaper change, food, cuddling, burping and some love before he was calm enough for some shots.  Even then, we had to be quick between several short screaming bursts.  Sheesh.  I had even picked this time because it was his awake time and after he had his earlier meal.  Amazingly, we got lots of great shots of him and us.  As many know, I am horrible at making a choice and couldn't decide which cute shot was the best.  Instead, we bought several shots in a package deal so that all the relatives will get a photo :-)  

As soon, like within minutes, of being done Tam conked out and slept peacefully for the next hour!
