He just figured out how to jump in the jumperoo and LOVES it. Lots of grinning from Jude. And now Mom and Dad have free hands again for minutes on end while Jude entertains himself.
Thoughts, ideas, laughs, fears, and ramblings from mom
It has been an awesome adventure so far . . .
And there is so much more to come.

Jude's 4 month check-up
Our second son is already nearly 4 months old! Yesterday, I took our little Jude in for his well-check up with the pediatrician. Brian stayed home with Tam, so it wasn't a complete circus at the clinic.
Overall, Jude is a healthy little guy...with the exception of his reflux, and even that could be a ton worse than it is. Doctor assured us that 95% of kiddos outgrow the reflux problems by 18months at the latest and between 6-12 as the average. Usually, when the wee one becomes better at sitting up and moving, which makes him strengthen his tummy muscles, then the reflux problems begin to subside. I mentioned that usually Jude is doing ok with the current dosage of medicine, but the past couple of days has been a bit worse. Doc said to keep trying with the current medicine, but if it still seems to be failing, then we can switch his medicine. On one hand I hate medicating such a wee one, but I have seen how he reacts to the acid pain when he doesn't have some soothing relief. We'll stick with what we've got for now and keep our fingers crossed for the future months.
Doc also gave the green light on solids for whenever we want to start and Jude seems interested. Certainly trying the rice cereal first to "practice" eating and then veggies and fruit. He reminded us to go slow with new foods and be on the look out for reactions. I did mention that I'm still breastfeeding now, but may switch to formula 'round 6 months again if stress from work gets to me. He suggested trying a soy formula if the normal stuff reacts badly with Jude. All good information to keep in mind.
And, Jude got a couple of immunizations via shots in the thigh. The poor guy was all happy and smiles at the nurse...right up until the needle jabbed his little leg. Then the lip quivered, the eyes welled up with tears, and the wailing began. Two pricks and I swept in to curl him into my arms to comfort him. With a bit of love, he was okay again within moments. Way to tough it out little guy!

And, of course, we got Jude's weight and height. Any guesses? I felt that he was bigger and a little longer than Tamlin was at this age; this being based on what clothes he's fitting into currently (6-9months).
I think my final estimate was 18lbs, about double his birth weight.
Brian jokingly suggested 25lbs. I laughingly reminded him that Tamlin barely breaks 30lbs!
...
At 3months and 3weeks, Jude measuring 25inches and 17pounds, 14 ounces. This places him about in the 95% for weight and 85% for height. Looking back at Tamlin's stats, Jude is both heavier and longer than our first born.
I'm just glad both are so healthy and happy...most of the time!

Jumperoo - Part 2
Jude and the Jumperoo = Awesome Love!
The first thing I noticed after placing Jude in the contraption was that his feet touched the floor already. This wasn't just his toes, but his whole foot was on the floor when the seat was in the lowest setting. I know I recall that Tamlin needed a pillow under it for awhile at first, so Jude seems to be a bit longer at this age.
Well...what did Jude think?
...
He LOVES it! His eyes got huge as he started seeing all the toys tantalizingly within arms reach. Then, he glanced up and noticed the dangling toys too (banana and bird). I could just hear his little brain going: "What's this...ooohhh...what's this....cool!"
He did reach out and try to move the rolling orange & yellow ball :-)
And Tam showed him how the music turns off and on.
I think Jude just loved the ability to be upright and able to watch all that is going on around him...including watching his big brother playing nearby. Plus, being upright is easiest on his tummy and dealing with the reflux, especially after eating.
Jude doesn't have the ability to jump around in the contraption yet, but once he masters that skill his grins will be even bigger :-)
And, just like Tam, when Jude gets happy, his drool gets everywhere. Good thing the seat is washable.
Now, when we put Jude in the jumperoo he grins and then starts "talking" up a storm...lots of squeals, squeaks, grunts, and coos. Oh-so-cute!
Here's Jude at 3.5 months and Tamlin in the jumperoo when he was 4 months old.

September 11 - Remember
Remembering the events of September 11, 2001 and those innocents who lost their lives...I know that I will be hugging my loved ones a little tighter on this anniversary date.
Where was I on that day ten years ago?
In Minnesota, 0ut in a field plot helping to collect soil samples to look at fungi hyphae. When our collecting group got back to civilization we heard the news. Brian called me from Yellowstone National Park and told me to turn on the TV to see what had happened. I watched the videos of the planes hitting the World Trade Center's tower; I saw the smoke, the tears, the rescue personal working swiftly, the shock. Neither of us could believe it. The action seemed unreal, like a scene from a movie and not something that happened in real life. After the disbelief came the fear that more attacks would come. We signed off from talking to each other, and I know that I at least said "I love you" with a bit more feeling and umph that usual. That fear stayed with me for the next few weeks...And I was so glad when he finally made it back to me after his work in the national park finished.
Now my bucket list includes going to NY city to visit the memorial at Ground Zero.
