Cat and Tam

Our cat may be smarter than we give him credit for...

Brian heard Tam at the glorious hour of 5:00am this morning. Tam wasn't crying but, murmuring and thrashing around in his crib. Wonderful hubby went to check on Tam and noticed our ol' cat sitting in the hallway to the baby's room. Tam was easily soothed and back to slumber...or so we thought. Our cat got a couple of pets on the head too.

Again, we hear Tam murmuring and giggling around 6am. No crying (thankfully). Good hubby again, goes to check on the baby and see if he'll fall back asleep for another 30-60minutes. Tam's usual wake for the day time has moved back to 6:30-7:00am. This time, Brian finds our cat sitting in the doorway of the baby's room. He doesn't think anything of it since the kitty is often hanging around upstairs where the people are. He gives Tam the pacifier and he curls up and knocks back out.

At 6:30am, Tam again is giggling and babbling in his crib. Okay, he's up for the day. When Brian goes to check on our kiddo he walks in on the scene of the crime! Our cat is sitting on the rug right next to the crib. He's meowing occasionally but not too loudly. Tam is ecstatic to see the kitty! He's reaching his little hands through the crib bars desperately trying to pet the cat. The cat was sitting (smuggly) just out of reach.

Ah-ha! Normally, we ignore the cat's meows during the night, especially since he is a totally indoor cat. However, we nearly always get up if the baby cries during the night. Has our cat figured this out? We think he's going into kiddo's room, meowing to wake him up, and then waiting for Tam to wake US up, and then getting the extra attention after we check out Tam. WTF! Maybe the cat's going to banished to the downstairs for the night hours for awhile.

Kiddo is finally crawling!

Yeah! Tam has finally moving and grooving around the living room. He started with just rolling everywhere. In just the past two days, he has figured out how to actually crawl! Most of the time it is more "army crawl" style with belly on the floor, but he has done belly up too.

Oh it is too cute! Now Brian and I totally tease him, like a little puppy. We'll place a trail of cheerios across the floor and laugh as he crawl/rolls around to collect them all. Better than cable television! And he makes great sound effects as well...still lots of raspberries, clicks, snaps, squeals, and ba-ba-ba-ba or ma-ma-ma or ya-ya-ya-ya. He is definitely a talker.

Failed booties

So not all of my craft projects turn out great...

I tried two new bootie patterns this week to try to whip of cute shoes for Goober.

After pulling out some great fun fabrics, I was excited to give the first pattern a go. The first problem was trying to get Goober to hold still long enough to trace his feet to get a size. I estimated. Bad idea. The instructions were simple enough and the pattern was fairly straight-forward. The end result was quite a bit too big. They ended up looking more like big pillows on his feet held there by elastic at the ankles. Too funny! Maybe he'll grow into them by his first birthday.

I began try number two the following night. More fun fabrics and anther cute, simple pattern. These were more boot-like then slippers, and used a tie rather than elastic. Again, I attempted to get a size of Kiddo's feet. Smart me, I traced a foot while he was sleeping. Armed with a better idea for size, I was more confident this one would work. Sigh. No deal. This time the booties were wide enough, but not long enough. His little toes were shoved into the the pointy little end. Well, maybe we'll keep them for the next baby.

I haven't decided if I'm up for try number three with yet another pattern. Maybe I'll give this a try this weekend, if I get all of my lessons for school done. Or, I'll abandon the idea and try a pair of pants tutorial I found instead.

At least they were fast failures!
